Adventurous, sneakily joyous, and somewhat practical are all adjectives that have been used to describe Elana Wood. As a somewhat academically inclined grade 12 student Elana often finds herself nearing AP physics meltdowns and unintentionally examining the xylem and phloem of plants whilst walking her dog Jax. She absolutely loves getting outside of her comfort zone for a spontaneous adventure. Whether it’s throwing up off the side of a topsail schooner at 3am during a night sail down the Hecate Strait, or hiking 40km down Nootka island with 1.2kg of melting cheese, she is always down for a good time.  Elana thoroughly enjoys taking photos (especially of people) and can often be found nostalgically going through them and laughing. She hopes to study Mechanical Engineering in the fall of 2019, hopefully whilst wearing Blundstones and drinking coffee out of artistic clay mugs.

This mural was donated to the UN by the First Lady Nancy Reagan in 185, a gift on behalf of the US. The UN was full of beautiful pieces of art from many different countries, but this one was by far my favourite. The whole building had dated and intricate designs, giving the UN lots of history and character. Before going to the UN, I was not very excited, but by the end of it, it was one of my favourite parts of New York. Our tour guide was very well educated about all the facts and history, which helped make it even more interesting than it already was.
