Grand Theft Auto V Stealing the Show

The hype for video games is unbelievable, and maybe even unhealthy. Hundreds of people are willing to stand outside their favourite stores for hours, waiting to get their pre ordered copy of the game on midnight release. One game that seems to stand out in particular, is Rockstar’s newest release, Grand Theft Auto 5.

Unlike most games, the hype for GTA 5 was extremely huge. In fact, the hype was bigger than: MW3, Halo Reach and/or Halo 4. I remember hearing about this game over a year before it was released, and that was only the beginning stages of its development. From that point on, people became increasingly excited, and the hype got even more intense. Subsequently, the midnight release brought out the desperate side of people. There were even a few young men who impersonated police officers in order to cut in front of the line and get their copies first. GTA 5 made $800 million in 24 hours, and over $1 billion within 3 days. Call of Duty Black ops 2 took 15 days to pass the $1 billion mark, so Rockstar is clearly doing something right. The most amazing thing is that it costed the Rockstar developers between $200-$250 million to make, that means they made a huge profit within one day just through presales.

So with numbers like this, it’s pretty clear that Grand Theft Auto 5 is like no other. There hasn’t ever been such a strong anticipation, and it seems like it will take a very long time to die down. If you are a fan of the series, or are just looking for something new to play, picking this game up might be a really good idea.
